10 Fascinating WWE SummerSlam 1990 Facts
2. It Marked The End Of Bad News Brown In WWE
Bad News was programmed into an unusual one-on-one match with Jake Roberts, centered around each man's possession of critters. Jake Roberts brought his usual python companion Damian to ringside, whereas Brown brought a crate that purportedly contained a number of Harlem sewer rats (which were never actually seen). Roberts won by disqualification in under five minutes, and Brown thereafter disappeared from WWE.
By 1990, Brown's relationship with the company had grown highly contentious. At one time, Brown claims that Vince McMahon promised to put the World title on him, making him the first black World champion. After enduring what he believes were an assortment of lies over his two and a half years with the company, Brown left following SummerSlam.
In an absurd side-note, Brown was replaced on house shows that September by Akeem, who wrestled Roberts in matches that were still billed as "Harlem Street Fights". If you remember the Akeem character and its origins, you know why this is worth a facepalm.
