9. Mr. Perfect Missed Most Of The Summer With A Back Injury

In mid-June 1991, Bret Hart found out that he would be dethroning long-reigning Intercontinental Champion Mr. Perfect at SummerSlam. The two extraordinary athletes had torn the house down at many a live event with their time limit draws, and were going to get the chance to show a worldwide audience what magic they could create in the ring together.

Roughly a week after Hart learned about the plans, Perfect was taken off the road with a serious back injury. The champion's predilection for taking wild and astounding bumps was playing havoc with his health. Hart even admits that the word was Curt Hennig might actually miss SummerSlam due to the severity of his injuries.

Perfect managed to film two brief squash matches on TV tapings at the end of July (taking it as easy on his body as possible), but once SummerSlam was over, it would be fifteen months before Hennig wrestled again.
