This entry flies in the face of modern WWE convention, which is to have pay-per-views that feature almost entirely heels winning, because the angles apparently need to run for four or five months apiece.

Things were different in the Attitude Era, where crowd favorites got wins aplenty. Yes, there were enough screwy finishes and instances of non-sensical booking to drive Jim Cornette into a Shining-like homicidal rage, but there was a more evident sense of "fun". Blood-soaked, oversexualized, coarse-minded fun.

That much was apparent at SummerSlam 1998. The heels ran a clean sweep on Sunday Night Heat, but babyfaces dominated the pay-per-view card, with the exception of the opening match. D-Lo Brown retained his European Championship in a disqualification victory over Val Venis, which annoyed the crowd somewhat. Never fear, New York: the rest of the night is booked with your best interests in mind.
