Getting to team with Sable at the peak of her popularity is quite a plum spot for any wrestler, let alone a 24-year-old blue chipper like Adam Copeland. The role of a muted street urchin may have been ill-fitting, but there was plenty of buzz surrounding his eventual debut. However, after accidentally injuring Jose Estrada, Jr. in his TV debut, a frazzled Edge was set adrift in the midcard.

Despite the early struggles, Edge was put into the position to team with Sable against Marc Mero and Jacqueline at SummerSlam. Though WWE wanted Sable to get the pin on her then-husband, Edge knew he had to do something to make his mark.

When planning the match in WWE's practice facility, Edge recommended a tag move that he and Christian performed many times on the indies, the tandem front slam where Edge drops his partner from a wheelbarrow position. The move got a great reaction (shapely Sable wrapping her legs around someone's waist will turn some heads), and a redemptive Edge got to be involved in a memorable-enough spot, leaving the door open for further opportunities up the card.
