Rattled brain aside, the Austin/Undertaker match still came off quite well, especially under those circumstances. Dave Meltzer rated it three and a half stars, a score that denotes "better than good, but just shy of excellent". Austin's had greater matches, but his war with The Undertaker was certainly nothing to sneeze at.

Wrestlers, however, are their own worst critics, and Austin admitted on a 2016 edition of his podcast to being disappointed with the match. Austin said that he and The Undertaker didn't hook the crowd the way that they had hoped, and regretted that they couldn't get the Garden fans to hang on every ensuing move of their brawl.

Austin also admitted that he didn't have the same chemistry with The Undertaker that he had with guys like Rock or Bret Hart, but still believes the SummerSlam match could've been much greater.
