10 Fascinating WWE SummerSlam 1999 Facts
4. Jesse Ventura's SummerSlam Appearance Was To Partially Spite Some Old Colleagues
No doubt that Ventura and McMahon had their troubles with each other; after all, Ventura did beat his old boss in court in 1994, over videotape royalties. Time (and opportunities for media-gets) heal all wounds, and Ventura found himself working alongside his former boss, and Saturday Night's Main Event co-announcer, once more. Despite the issues that Ventura and McMahon had, there were some in the industry that the Governor hated more.
In a 2012 shoot interview, Ventura admitted that one of the reasons he took the SummerSlam gig was to stick it to two then-WCW figures: Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff. Bischoff fired Ventura from WCW in 1994, and "The Body" claimed that Bischoff (who he called "sleaze") had backstabbed him, particularly after Hogan came on board.
As far as Hogan goes, Ventura has long held a grudge against The Hulkster for allegedly stooging out Ventura's movement to unionize the wrestlers in 1986. Ventura found out about Hogan's reputed underhandedness in 1994 when McMahon testified under oath that Hogan was the one who told him of Ventura's plan.
