10 Fascinating WWE SummerSlam 2006 Facts
7. Hulk Hogan Apparently Suffered A Knee Injury Two Weeks Before The Show
After the success of SummerSlam 2005, you can't blame WWE for going to the Hogan well once more. Hulkamania would live once more come SummerSlam 2006, stemming from an angle on Saturday Night's Main Event where Orton RKO'ed Hogan on the trunk of a car. Not exactly Shawn Michaels' unexpected superkick, but it had legs.
Hogan, meanwhile, was struggling with his own legs. A little more than two weeks before the pay-per-view, WWE.com reported that Hogan suffered a knee injury after performing the simple act of standing up from his sofa. Well, to be fair, he was almost 53, and had sustained plenty of wear and tear as a working wrestler over time.
MRI results reportedly indicated that Hogan had a partially torn meniscus. Hogan missed the go-home Raw on August 14, but apparently made an appearance on Live with Regis and Kelly the following day, sound as a pound and moving ably. Figure Four Weekly reports that there was a big drug test scheduled for that August 14 Raw, and found it convenient that Hogan missed out on it. Especially since he worked with Orton as scheduled come SummerSlam.
