Fans of a certain age will tell you of a time back in the sparser pay-per-view days that matches would be announced well ahead of time. A month before an event like SummerSlam, you'd know at least seven or eight matches taking place, with a few more midcard matches still to go. Times changed over the years, as monthly pay-per-views don't allow that kind of long-term set-up.

Still it was pretty unlike WWE to have only four matches announced six nights before the pay-per-view: Punk vs. Cena, Orton vs. Christian, Sheamus vs. Mark Henry, and Kelly Kelly vs. Beth Phoenix for the Divas Championship.

Yet to be added were the Daniel Bryan/Wade Barrett encounter, and a six-man tag featuring men that had all worked high-profile matches in the previous year. Kinda thrown together for a SummerSlam, no?
