6. Mysterio Worked With A Serious Knee Injury

So Mysterio, who had held the "unofficial" WWE Championship just three weeks before the pay-per-view, had to be shoehorned into SummerSlam in a six-man tag with five other men that, like Rey, shouldn't have had to gasp for airtime. He, John Morrison, and Kofi Kingston took on The Miz, R-Truth, and Alberto Del Rio in a pretty nifty opener, though Mysterio was a bit worse for wear before bell time.

Mysterio had apparently suffered a knee injury a little more than a week before SummerSlam while working with Del Rio at a house show. He gutted his way through the pain both at SummerSlam, and Raw the next night before heading off to have surgery on his ACL. He would not return until July the following year.
