The night before SummerSlam, WWE partnered up with video game developer 2K Sports to host a symposium related to the forthcoming WWE2K14 video game. The main feature of the game was the "30 Years of WrestleMania" mode, and to promote it, Jim Ross presided over a panel of WWE stars of different eras for a Q&A session.

Ric Flair all but commandeered the panel. "The Nature Boy" went off on tangents unrelated to the game, brought up TNA, and even claimed that John Cena drinks a six-pack of beer a day (which surely thrilled image-conscious WWE).

Flair had a WWE contract offer rescinded as a result of his hijacking of the session. By mid-September, Ross was fired for his inability as the host to control Flair. WWE and Ross both publicly claimed that Good Ol' JR was merely "retiring" from wrestling, but most saw the mutual spin for what it actually was.
