Six nights after Brand Extension 2: The Rebranding, Sasha Banks defeated Charlotte, capturing the Raw-branded Women's Championship for the first time. Considering Sasha's spiking popularity as both a gifted in-ring performer and a sex symbol alike, putting the title on her was a no-brainer. The indication was that her reign was meant to last for some time.

But alas, the injury bug crept in. By SummerSlam Sunday, Banks was suffering from what The Wrestling Observer called "a significant back injury", which was somewhat apparent at points during her SummerSlam rematch with Charlotte.

The title change greatly upset the Brooklyn crowd, but it was seemingly necessary at the time. Banks only missed about two and a half weeks of action before resuming life on the road, and regained the gold on the October 3 episode of Raw.
