10 Fascinating WWE Survivor Series 1992 Facts
8. Smith Was Meant To Defend The Intercontinental Belt At The Show
The IC title switch from Smith to Shawn Michaels in late October 1992 had some rather interesting timing. On WWE television the weekend of October 24/25, it was announced that "The British Bulldog" would defend the strap against The Mountie at the forthcoming pay-per-view.
However, Michaels won the belt from Smith on Tuesday, October 27 at the Saturday Night's Main Event tapings, so plans seemed to change rather quickly. In a rather curious coincidence, The Mountie quit WWE during the previous day's tapings, after losing to Bret Hart in an untelevised match in under 30 seconds.
By the time WWE's weekly programming aired the weekend of November 7/8, the Smith/Mountie match was no longer mentioned in the pay-per-view rundown, and Smith was never going to be issued a replacement.
