The classic WWE formula was faces vs. heels, and with few exceptions, it was rare for McMahon to deviate from that rote method. The idea of co-opting babyfaces and heels in teams pitted against each other was previously unheard of in WWE's world, but that's just what the company ran with in 1995, in what was billed as a "Wild Card" match.

The idea for the match came from Bill Watts, the legendary Mid-South and UWF head-man who (at his best) brought some of the grittiest, intriguing and most innovative wrestling to the forefront of the business. Watts worked with WWE for three months in 1995, helping to inject a bit of realism into what had become a full-blown circus.

While McMahon was receptive to some of Watts' ideas, the two butted heads just enough that the Oklahoma-born wrestling legend eventually chose to walk away, later writing, "There is only room for one 'titan' in Titan Sports."
