The day of the show, Hart had some nagging reservations about the match. The feeling had actually crept into his nerves that something was amiss, and that people he trusted to do right by him weren't going to. Once Earl Hebner told him he would never screw him over (something Hebner only reneged on because Brisco threatened his job), Hart was more at ease.

There were wrestlers that told Hart to be on his toes. Davey Boy Smith and Vader both warned Hart not to get caught in any holds, though Bret had already agreed to let Michaels put him in the Sharpshooter to set up a reversal spot. Hart figured he had Hebner on his side, so his defenses were down.

Rick Rude also smelled a rat. Before Hart made his entrance, Rude noticed Triple H wasn't present by the curtain for his scheduled run-in. He told Hart he would be watching his back, in case something was up.
