When Goldberg came to WWE on a one-year deal in the spring of 2003, the company was compelled to basically book an "express career" for the master of the Jackhammer. This meant putting a top belt on him to justify the money spent, but that any title reign of his wasn't going to last very long.

Goldberg's run with the World Heavyweight Championship began at Unforgiven 2003, and ended less than three months later at Armageddon. In between, his only successful title defense took place at Survivor Series when he defeated Triple H.

This held true in 2017, when 50-year-old Goldberg defeated Kevin Owens to begin a four-week reign as Universal Champion. In his first and only defense, he was beaten by Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 33, in the greatest five-minute match ever.
