Just two short years ago, WWE severed ties with Hulk Hogan. Old audio had surfaced of Hogan using racial slurs whilst admitting his discomfort with the idea of his daughter Brooke dating black men. WWE did their best to try and head off the veritable public relations nightmare by cutting Hogan loose.

Of course, WWE hasn't always been the most progressive and sensitive company, particularly in their angles and stories. Many, many fans immediately noted that at Survivor Series 2005, Vince McMahon uttered a certain word toward John Cena in the name of shock comedy (with Booker T and Sharmell present). It was so surreal that even 12 years later, the skit feels imagined.

When word of the McMahon skit made it to the news outlets after Hogan's firing, WWE was compelled to issue a statement. It read, “It was an outlandish and satirical skit involving fictional characters, similar to that of many scripted television shows and movies.”
