10 Feuds That Made WWE

7. Steve Austin VS Bret Hart

It's right about this spot on the list where a lot of the feuds basically become interchangeable and can be moved up or down without any issue. There are just so many good ones to choose from. You could say that there might not have been a meteoric rise to superstardom for "Stone Cold" Steve Austin without this feud, and you'd probably be right. Bret was just the perfect foil for him, with his old school ways and always trying to do things by the book, while Austin was all about the new school and doing things his own way. It represented a shift in the wrestling business, as a whole, as well as a shift in society itself. A lot of the "family friendly" shows, movies, music, and culture were being pushed to the back burner, allowing for more sex, violence, foul language, and suggestive situations to come to the forefront. This feud was so hot that it turned into a United States VS Canada war. If you were an American wrestling fan at the time, you hated Canada and every Canadian living there. They might as well have threatened to blow up the entire country and kill every American citizen. People were just that angry. In reality, Canada has given the United States zero reason to even dislike them, let alone actively hate them. Their match at WrestleMania 13 remains one of the most perfectly executed "double turns" in the history of the business, and by all accounts, it happened accidentally. The WWF was still trying to push Bret as a "hero", but fans were becoming increasingly tired of his act, all while Austin was winning people over as a heel. Mania was simply a perfect storm, with Bret continuing his whining ways, and Austin refusing to give up. Austin was off to the races from there, while Bret would go on to have a bit more interesting event happen to him later that year...
