People can talk all they want about the lack of quality in their WrestleMania 3 match, but Hulk Hogan VS Andre The Giant was huge and had all of wrestling watching it closely. Hogan was still in the somewhat early stages of Hulkamania, and his popularity was at absolutely insane levels. Andre was, perhaps, the best "special attraction" the sport had ever seen, his own popularity transcending the business without needing titles, or even to be involved in title chases. Why not put them in a match and promote it as the biggest event that wrestling had ever seen? Andre siding with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, Hogan's hated rival, was the perfect heel turn for him. He was tired of taking a backseat to Hogan and letting Hulk get all the love, and most importantly, the WWF Title. Heenan got into Andre's head, telling him that Hogan was afraid of Andre, and that's why Hogan would defend the WWF Title against anyone in the company except for him. Their WrestleMania match broke all sorts of box office records, although, if you let Hogan tell the story, he'd say that he bodyslammed the 7,000-pound Andre in front of approximately two million people in attendance at the Pontiac Silverdome. It was everything the company could have ever hoped it would be, and then some. It showed the world that Hulk was truly as big a star as the WWF wanted you to believe he was, and he was truly able to move forward without any doubts.
