10 Fluke Wrestling Wins That Actually Worked
6. John Cena Slips Under The Walls (Vs Chris Jericho)
Chris Jericho can't catch a break, can he?
Far and away from the John Cena we are exposed to today, this young rookie found himself thrown into a feud with the dastardly former World Champion and was placed in his first ever PPV bout with the man at Vengeance 2002.
Jericho went straight after Cena with a steel chair, only for Cena to steal the weapon and release his new found 'ruthless aggression' on the villain. Cena used this fire to blast Jericho in the early stages, but before long the seasoned Y2J used his superior ring IQ to grind down the green rookie. Cena had teased stealing the victory throughout the match, only for Jericho to out-smart him at every turn - it looked to be a futile experience for OVW's Prototype.
However, with Jericho's arrogance brimming, he tried to toy with Cena and half-heartedly attempted the Walls of Jericho. Young Cena finally successfully pulled the trigger and countered the submission into a roll-up for the win.
This PPV victory added more fuel to the John Cena hype-blaze that had newly erupted after his exchange with Kurt Angle on his official debut. Cena showed his potential as a crowd-popping babyface here and it would prove the foundation for the Cenation Leader we know today.
