8. A New Era Of Hardcore - Mick Foley & Edge
Everyone remembers the wild hardcore match between Edge and Mick Foley at WrestleMania 22. The sight of 40-year-old Foley disappearing through a flaming table is hard to forget.
However, what people might not remember is that their association continued well past the Show of Shows.
During a triple threat match on an episode of Raw also involving Tommy Dreamer, Foley betrayed Dreamer to align himself with his former foe. This was the beginning of a heel turn for Mick, in which he ragged on the newly-revived ECW brand.
Foley must have the gift of foresight, because he called his shot perfectly on that one.
This led to Foley and Edge bringing back the Hardcore championship and proclaiming themselves co-holders. They also had a match at ECW One Night Stand 2006, teaming with Lita to face off against Dreamer, Beluah McGillicutty, and *sigh* Terry Funk.
Seriously, Terry, will you just look after yourself?
As good in the role as he was, there was no way that fans were ever going to take kind, cuddly Foley seriously as a heel.
Still, this remains a very curious part of Mick's career, alongside fellow Hall of Famers Edge and Lita.
