10 Forgotten WWE Masked Men
1. Aquila
Debuting at the age of 18 under a mask as Aguila, the future Essa Rios entered the tournament for the relaunched Light Heavyweight Championship in 1997. A way to counteract WCW’s popular Cruiserweight division, the tournament introduced us to some great wrestlers and high flying action.
Aguila was eliminated in the semi finals of the tournament but went on to challenge eventual champion Taka Michinoku in an under-rated match at Wrestlemania 14. Aguila wowed crowds with twisting sentons, rapid hurricanranas and moonsaults, proving to be an exciting part of the division before the belt faded from importance.
Aquila stayed on contract and debuted later as Essa Rios complete with Lita as his valet. The two went on to enjoy some success with Rios capturing the Light Heavyweight Championship from record breaking champion Gillberg.
