10 Gimmicks WWE Needs To Bring Back In 2017 (And Who Should Use Them)

1. The Legend Killer

The gimmick that ironically made Randy Orton a legend in his own right. After making his debut as a hard-working third generation blue chipper Orton was struck by injury, possibly caused by how unimaginably bland he was. When he returned the chip was embedded on his shoulder, and after joining Evolution he proceeded to target the legends of professional wrestling.

Those legends make up most of WWE's WrestleMania card today, so why not reprise this in an NXT sense? More and more 'legends' of the independent world are signing to WWE and being treated as huge deals, so it would make sense for a Performance Center talent to rise up and try to take them out.

This seemed to be the path Baron Corbin was taking before he was brought up to the main roster after WrestleMania. SmackDown Live is where Corbin will stay, but he would benefit from taking on a twist of the Legend Killer character that made Orton so engaging.

There are plenty more. The evil sibling, the apathetic anti-hero, the voodoo doctor, the wrestling plumber and lord knows what else. It is unlikely that 2017 will be the year of the gimmick, but we can hope. What gimmicks would you like to see reprised in WWE over the next 12 months?

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
