5. Triple H VS The Rock (SummerSlam 1998)
WWE.comWhile they would both go on to become two of the biggest stars in wrestling history, they were merely on-the-rise midcarders at the time of this Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Title, and nobody really knew what to expect. Until this point, we had seen Shawn Michaels perform in every Ladder Match the WWF had, so to see two larger men wrestling in one had the potential to be a disaster, especially at such an early stage in their careers. Because both men were bigger and stronger, they were able to have quite the physical match, and they spent nearly 30 minutes beating the hell out of each other. As the match went on, you could really start to see the potential that they had, and you could begin to predict big things for them in the future. The crowd gave up on trying to cheer the face (Triple H) and boo the heel (The Rock), and partway through the match, both men were getting cheered like top faces, popping the crowd with every big spot. There seemed to be more use of the ladder as a weapon in this one, basically setting up every future Ladder Match the company would have, so maybe Trips and The Rock deserve even more credit for what they did.
