10 Great Matches Starring Dud Wrestlers
3. 2 Cold Scorpio & Marcus Bagwell Vs. Shanghai Pierce & Tez Slazenger - WCW Beach Blast 1993
Dennis Knight didn't have much in the way of positive attributes.
As smooth as gravel and possessing a Weeble-like physique, he's equally known for helping to sound the death knell of the WWF's tag team division in the mid-1990s and polluting Attitude Era undercards by wheezing his way through five minute matches.
Proving the old adage that every dog has his day to be true, Knight before his dreadful run in the Federation once participated in a choice tag team effort during his days as Tex Slazenger in WCW. Helped considerably by their agile - and in the case of Scorpio, massively talented - opponents, Slazenger and Pierce (Mark 'Henry O. Godwinn' Canterbury) direct the flow of the action, cutting off Bagwell's comeback spots with a deft sense of timing.
Compensating for the lack of presence betrayed by his tall frame, Slazenger instead impresses with his use of body language, slapping fan favourite Bagwell around with a dead-eyed stare to deafening jeers. Like any tag tussle worth its salt, through their psychological shortcuts Pierce and Slazenger ensure that Scorpio's hot tag spot at the finish tears the house dow.
The selling is slightly histrionic viewed through a 21st Century lens, but the scintillating crowd heat justifies and makes up for it.
