10 Great Wrestlers Who Couldn't Have A Good Match Together

7. Chris Jericho & Steve Austin

Chris Jericho and Steve Austin were two of wrestling's biggest stars when the sport was at its hottest. 'Stone Cold' was on a downswing as 'Y2J' was rising, but there was still plenty of crossover between the two, and they wrestled each other countless times at the turn of the century.

Their first big PPV bout came during Vengeance 2001's Undisputed Title tournament. Jericho had just defeated The Rock in a thrilling qualifying match, while Austin, the reigning WWE Champion, overcame Kurt Angle in another solid bout. This sent them both to the main event, but it was easily the tourney's weakest contest, with both wrestlers displaying a surprising lack of cohesion and coordination.

They met again at No Way Out 2002, but while the rematch represented a slight step forward in terms of quality, the stuttering bout was ultimately derailed by the nWo's interference.

While these bouts tended to deliver when other wrestlers were involved (particularly their Tag Team Title match on the 21 May 2001 episode of Raw), they never clicked in one-on-one situations. Austin has since admitted that he and Jericho just couldn't get it together in the ring: odd, considering how well he worked with the era's other high-workrate grapplers.
