10 Great WWE Characters That Have Grown Stale

1. The McMahons

Nothing on the planet is staler than the television personas of the McMahon family. Nothing. You could leave an apple in your kitchen for years on end and it would retain more vitality than Vince, Stephanie and Shane combined. That these three still find ways to turn up on WWE is just about the biggest indictment of creative that can be put together.

This isn't new, either. The McMahons have been stale for years now, Many, many years. Decades maybe.

When Shane McMahon returned in 2016, he did feel somewhat new. He seemed to have matured as a character, acting as a level-headed foil for the WWE Universe, but it didn't take long for that insatiable family need for the spotlight to return. He turned heel, he started wrestling more, and the whole thing quickly returned to eye-rolling territory. If RAW Underground was supposed to give him something new to sink his teeth into, it hasn't worked.

And Stephanie, oh Stephanie. Having Stephanie come out and emasculate a member of the WWE roster is an annual must for this company. It hasn't been necessary at any point in her career.

Vince McMahon's advancing age means he is seen less and less on television these days, but his sparse appearances are a reminder of how stale his character is. Yes, Vince, we know you are in charge, there is no point reminding everyone whenever you are onscreen.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
