9. Mikey Whipwreck

At just 22 years of age, fan favourite underdog Mikey Whipwreck became the youngest world champion in history when he defeated The Sandman in a ladder match on 28 October 1995.

Whipwreck had debuted initially as a jobber for ECW in 1993 and quickly won over Paul Heyman with his gutsy performances. Seeing major babyface potential, Heyman began pushing Whipwreck as a courageous rookie winning both the TV and tag titles. Whipwreck’s brutal feud with The Sandman solidified him as a top dog in the promotion and only the third Triple Crown winner in ECW’s history.

Sadly all good things must come to an end and for Whipwreck that came a mere 41 days later when a certain superstar named Steve Austin eliminated him from a triple threat with eventual winner, The Sandman.

Similar to Bigelow, Whipwreck did not get much time with the big belt but deserves recognition for the entertainment value he provided and the high quality of the storylines surrounding him chasing and ultimately winning the big one.
