10 Greatest In-Ring Promos Of All Time

9. The 1004 Holds Of Jericho

During Chris Jericho's initial run in WCW, he was so bland it seemed unlikely to assume he'd be remembered in 1997, let alone 2017. The blonde babyface was fully aware his squeaky-clean character had as much hope of staying afloat as a lead replica of the Titanic. Something had to change.

With WCW bookers more interested in the nWo and the company's top-tier (read: highest paid) stars, the young Canadian was given tacit allowance to do whatever he liked with his precious few minutes each week, and so he set about crafting a memorable persona of his own. Before long, a heel Jericho convinced of a WCW conspiracy against him was the most entertaining part of Nitro.

In the midst of his lengthy feud with Dean Malenko, the Winnipeg whiner produced the perfect rebuttal to the 'Man of 1000 Holds'. Hijacking WCW's flagship programme, Jericho - armed with a massive wad of paper - boasted he could surpass the 'Iceman's tally (by four, to be exact) and began to reel them off aloud. The 'Lionheart' made it as far as around 725, continuing through commercial, before he was stopped in his tracks by an unappreciataive Prince Iaukea.

Almost two decades later, Jericho would become famous for another list. Shame he never got to finish his first one.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
