The success of the moment has to go down to the fact that Linda wasn't required to speak on the microphone. There were many distasteful moments during the Vince McMahon saga of early 2001. He was humilating his own daughter and son and making out with Trish Stratus whenever an opportunity presented itself. It was all too much for the long-suffering Linda, who slipped into a coma and was forced into a wheelchair. It was pretty distasteful stuff but, hey, that was the WWF back then. Nothing was off-limits and Vince was even prepared to have his wife be 'sedated' by himself and Stephanie in a bid for ratings. It was just another week in the wacky McMahon family. Thankfully, the pay-off was at least worth it: rising from her wheelchair during the Vince versus Shane match, Linda kicked a stunned Vince squarely in the grapefruits, to a massive ovation.
