10 Greatest Special Guest Referee Performances In WWE
6. The Rock, SmackDown 1999
"It doesn't matter if The Rock counts to three!" Would any other referee be given a live microphone to officiate a match? On the seventh ever SmackDown, fan favourite The British Bulldog took on uber-heel world champ Triple H. The Great One was inserted as the guest ref and produced a typically electrifying performance befitting of an excellent TV main event.
Both Rock and Trips were well on their way to top-dog status in 1999, and this was a nice footnote in their world-class rivalry. Ever the charisma magnet, Rocky managed to take focus without overshadowing a World Title match - as he belonged in that picture himself.
Having said that, The Rock did get involved plenty throughout. He attacked both men, took a chair to the face for his troubles, and pulled off the coolest People's Elbow ever when he lost his footing on the canvas and slid towards a prone Bulldog as though nothing had gone awry. The fact that the winner was never in doubt probably allowed Rock to step in so often without making a mockery of the company's biggest belt.
