4.G.L.O.W: The Story Of The Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling (2012)
The Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling promotion was so crazy, colorful and cheesy it made Vince McMahon’s Rock ‘n’ Wrestling Era look like ECW. Still, it was a popular promotion featuring talent with names like Babe The Farmer's Daughter, Little Egypt and Matilda The Hun. The show enjoyed wide exposure by airing on hundreds of different stations across the United States. Then suddenly, at the peak of its popularity, it disappeared.
A 2012 documentary digs into how G.L.O.W. came out of nowhere to carve out its own wrestling niche. The promotion was composed of an entire roster of women, who were largely seen as special attractions at the time. While the show itself was a tame affair, behind the scenes things were a bit of a nightmare. Some of the wrestlers interviewed talk about being bullied by the management team and the strict kayfabe approach they were asked to maintain at all times.
The film features interviews with many former roster members who largely talk...glowingly...about their time in the promotion, along with Larry Zbyszko and Lisa Moretti (better known as WWE’s Ivory and who played Tina Ferrari on G.L.O.W.) sharing their thoughts as well.
Overall, the documentary is well-shot, treats its subject material with a ton of respect (despite how goofy it often was) and is an entertaining look back at the chaotic, colorful world of G.L.O.W.
