10 Greatest Wrestling Matches In Halloween Havoc History
6. Randy Savage Vs Diamond Dallas Page (1997)
When Randy Savage made the jump from WWF to Ted Turner’s organisation, it was because he felt like he had plenty more to offer in-ring. Vince McMahon had put the veteran worker out to pasture on the commentary desk - a job he was not suited for - and Macho Man believed he could still go.
His WCW work was hit and miss to say the least, but with the right opponent, he could remind fans he was one of the best ever. Diamond Dallas Page may have been his finest foe in the fed, and the pair are superb here.
Last Man Standing matches can stretch the fabric of kayfabe, but both wrestlers are eager to sell the weight of everything they do, from fast paced wrestling to weapons shots. DDP is on the ascendency here, and Savage generously presents the new star as a major threat, one who’ll take all of the veteran’s guile to defeat.
Ultimately the conclusion comes at the hands of a fake Sting, who are for some reason all over this show, but that doesn’t hurt the match. It’s among the best of the genre, continuing the build of Page and reminding the world how great Macho Man still could be.
