10 Greatest Wrestling Matches In Halloween Havoc History
5. Vader Vs. Cactus Jack (1993)
The other side of the coin for 1993’s show is its excellent main event. When WCW went particularly heavy on the horror, it could lead to disaster if not outright humiliation, but here they got the balance just right.
It helps that they have two stars who could have wandered out of a horror movie: brutal, masked madman Vader and semi-heroic but incredibly violent lunatic Cactus Jack. The two compete in a Texas Death Match, and if the rules, involving a 10 count after a pin and a 30 second rest period, are needlessly complex, it allows the pair to prowl the arena to their hearts’ content.
This means we’re getting stiff chair shots from the off, heavy suplexes on the entrance ramp, and a journey into the baying crowd. Jack’s busted open almost as soon as the match starts, but true to form he never gives up, lurching after Vader no matter what’s thrown at him. They even find the time for a bravura sequence in which Vader is chucked into, then crawls out of, his own grave.
The match comes down to Vader’s pal Harley Race zapping Jack (very unconvincingly) with a taser. It’s a bit of a limp finish to what could have been an epic brawl, but the relatively short runtime means there’s very little fat.
