10 Greatest Wrestling Technicians In WWE History
3. William Regal
Speaking of stretching, few Superstars on this list are as purely technical as William Regal.
A Brit who got his start at age 15, working for carnivals and wrestling commoners for cash, Regal learned early that the only way to survive was to take the opposition down and stretch them relentlessly. As he grew, learned and evolved as a more traditional professional wrestler, he incorporated many of the stretches he learned into his arsenal, providing fans in the United States with a modern take on the hookers that had populated the sport once upon a time.
In WCW, he gained acceptance as one of the premiere heels in the company, not just for his pompous and arrogant English royalty gimmick, but the fact that he was wrestling matches unlike any the audience had ever seen before. He was not only graceful while chain wrestling his opponent, he was nasty and ferocious as he laid into them with forearms before tossing them into the air with a T-bone Suplex.
He continued to utilize that same style in WWE, where he cut off flashy babyfaces such as Chris Jericho and Edge with his form of beautiful brutality.
Personal demons kept Regal from achieving true greatness in the form of a world heavyweight championship in either of the two companies he found his greatest success in, but today he remains as active as ever in prepping the next generation of wrestlers for the bright lights and grand stage of WWE as one of the trainers and consultants at the company's performance center.
