Looking at the show on paper, it didn't seem very appetising. Dare I say it, no WWE event quite overachieved like this one.

There are at least five good-to-great matches on the card, including Chris Benoit's return match after five months away, as he defeated William Regal in an unscheduled bout. The World Title fatal four way, with King Booker narrowly escaping from Batista, Finlay and Bobby Lashley, was a shockingly great main event.

Matt Hardy's win over Gregory Helms in their native North Carolina, and Rey Mysterio's win over Chavo Guerrero in a falls count anywhere match, solidify No Mercy's status as a superb offering. For a bonus, check out the underrated Tag Team title match, in which one of the challengers is the unsung Idol Stevens, aka Damien Sandow without a beard.
