10 Greatest WWE SummerSlam PPVs Ever
1. 2002
Despite the brilliance of SummerSlam 2000, I’ve had to
give top spot to the effort from two years later, in what may be one of the
greatest PPV’s in all of WWE history, never mind just that of SummerSlam.
The 2002 edition boasted a pair of must-see main events. First, we had Shawn Michaels wrestling his first match in almost four-and-a-half years in an Unsanctioned Street Fight against Triple H. Amazing, he was somehow arguably even better than he had been before he suffered that debilitating back injury in early '98.
The final match of the night then saw Brock Lesnar defeat The Rock for the WWE Championship, and in doing so create a piece of history as he became the youngest WWE Champion ever (at that time).
But it wasn’t just the top of the card that impress. The first three matches of the evening saw Kurt Angle take on Rey Mysterio, Ric Flair face Chris Jericho and Edge go head-to-head with Eddie Guerrero. How about that for an undercard?
With a line-up as star-studded as this one, and the subsequent matches that lived up to the hype, it’s difficult to dispute that SummerSlam 2002 is the greatest SummerSlam ever.
If you fancy giving it a go (or you just want to discuss some more SummerSlam greatness) please feel free to comment below and let me know your thoughts on the best SummerSlam PPVs of all-time!
