9. Crash Holly

Although his tenure with WWE was relatively short-lived, Crash Holly played an integral role in popularising the WWF Hardcore Championship during the early 2000s. As Bob Holly’s kayfabe cousin, Crash took the belt to new levels of weirdness by introducing the 24/7 rule, which stated that the belt could be defended any time, any place, so long as a WWF referee was present.

As a result, Holly racked up 22 Hardcore Championship reigns, with several of them lasting less than an hour. But he was also hounded by potential contenders wherever he went, and wound up defending his title in hotels, backstage areas, airports, and even a circus. The idea that Crash could be jumped at any moment made him one of the era’s most enigmatic, unpredictable underdogs.

Another charismatic wrestler who was looked down on for his size (5'9", 225lbs), Crash even incorporated his small stature into one of his early gimmicks, carrying a set of scales down to the ring in order to prove his spurious claims that he was actually a "400lb super heavyweight".

Coming in as the fake cousin of the notoriously tough ‘Hardcore’ Bob Holly can’t be easy either, but Crash took everything he was given and ran with it, and will forever be remembered as a vital proponent of hardcore wrestling.
