10 Growing Pains AEW Is Already Having
4. Older Names Outshining Newer Stars
Double Or Nothing's lasting memory was a bloody embrace between emotional brothers Cody and Dustin. It was also notable for Chris Jericho's stellar performance opposite Kenny Omega in the main event. Then, at Fight For The Fallen, Jericho stole headlines again, Dustin entered another winning performance and SCU had the best tag match on the show.
The older heads are outshining the young pups.
This is something AEW are going to find first hard the longer they're in business. Building stars from the ground up and selling them to a worldwide audience isn't easy, and it's not something that happens overnight. It certainly doesn't happen when the older workers under contract are of such high quality that they still steal the show despite their age.
One way to remedy this long term will be by mixing old with new and using those old stagers to put over fresh acts like MJF, Kip Sabian and more. AEW have already shown they're capable of that by booking Joey Janela vs. Jon Moxley and Darby Allin vs. Cody at Fyter Fest, but they need more of it.
