William Regal vs. Daniel Bryan was a certified dream match. Both were among their generation's greatest technicians, but while Bryan eventually became the hottest thing in the company, Regal was never pushed to the level his talents deserved.

This was largely down to his self-destructive personal habits, as the Englishman was reportedly set for a monster push before succumbing to the Substance Abuse and Drug Testing Policy after winning King Of The Ring in 2008. Regardless, he was still putting on great matches even in his career's twilight years, and while his clash with Bryan wasn't quite on the level of his epic bouts with Cesaro and Kassius Ohno, it was fantastic nonetheless.

Regal was as vicious as ever, grinding his opponent down with nasty strikes and holds, but Bryan was laser-focused in attacking the Englishman's leg. This prevented Regal from executing his trademark knee strikes, and while he eventually worked his way back to his feet, Bryan staggered him with a roundhouse kick, then trapped him in a LeBell lock.

Regal tapped. The student had surpassed the teacher, and William acknowledged this afterwards, raising his natural successor's hand to the crowd's applause.
