10 High Profile Wrestlers With Forgotten NWA Championship Runs
8. Ron Killings
As R-Truth in the WWE, Ron Killings has become a staple of the mid-card. A comfortable spot for the 45 year old, Killings has slipped into a pattern of throwaway matches, comedic gimmicks and low-profile feuds with that trend likely to continue until he retires. However, 15 years ago, a bitter and fired up Ron 'The Truth' Killings was making serious waves in NWA: TNA.
Having been released by WWF following his initial run as K-Kwik, Killings made his way to Nashville with a new name, a fresh outlook, and a bad attitude. As a result, the newly re-christened Ron 'The Truth' Killings would enjoy the most successful singles run of his career.
As an aggressive heel, Killings would go on to defeat Ken Shamrock and become the first ever African-American NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion. Killings would hold the title for 105 days before losing the strap to Jeff Jarrett. Despite the disappointing loss, “Truth” regained the belt 18 months later. Lasting just two weeks this time, Killings would once again lose the strap to repeat offender, Jeff Jarrett, and never hold a World Title again.
While he would gain unrivalled exposure as R-Truth in WWE - highlighted by PPV main events with both John Cena and The Rock - his post K-Kwik/pre R-Truth period as “The Truth” remains arguably the most successful run of the Carolinan’s career.
