Over a year earlier, the two were components of The Nexus, a virulent heel group that sadly fizzled before its time. By SummerSlam in 2011, Barrett was close to being lost in the shuffle, while Bryan toted around the World Heavyweight title briefcase.

Their SummerSlam match could have been a six-minute throwaway, but was given double that length. And they made the most of it.

The hard-hitting match featured Bryan at his most nimble and hard-hitting, with Barrett matching his intensity in what ended up being a great showcase of both men's overlooked talents. Barrett ended up winning, thus Bryan's loss was par for most briefcase-carriers.

For a look at some fine Bryan work before he became the "YES!" man, this is a damn good place to start.
