10 Historic 2002 Raw & SmackDown Moments To Check Out On WWE Network

6. Rob Van Dam Faces Eddie Guerrero In A Ladder War

In the intro to this piece, it was said that Smackdown became the show with the better wrestling following the Brand Extension. Of course, this didn't mean that Raw couldn't occasionally sparkle. Ladder Matches on Raw from 2002 seem to be a recurring theme, and there were few better than Eddie Guerrero vs. Rob Van Dam. The former was looking to resurrect his career following personal problems. For RVD, he was rapidly establishing himself as a must-see performer in WWE. Never was that any more evident than during his ladder battle against Guerrero. On the 27th May, 2002, both men competed in a truly captivating Intercontinental Title epic. Going close to 20 minutes in total, this was a case of Guerrero looking to prove himself all over again. It was remarkable to watch as the Latin superstar redeemed himself. Management watching backstage must have realised that he had a lot more to offer than simply existing in the middle of the card. Shortly afterwards, Guerrero was earmarked for a feud with Steve Austin, but that wouldn't happen due to 'Stone Cold' taking a short sabbatical from the company.
