Given that Gedo, New Japan's head booker, is synonymous with tag team wrestling, it's surprising that the company treat their duos divisions with such disregard. The Junior and Heavyweight pools often deliver good matches, but they're usually an afterthought.

This is a shame. The group isn't deep, but there are still plenty of talented individuals within, and Wrestle Kingdom 12 will see Los Ingobernables de Japon's EVIL and SANADA challenge Killer Elite Squad (Davey Boy Smith Jr. and Lance Archer), who won the gold at September's Destruction in Kobe event. It won't be a five-star classic, but it should still be bags of fun, particularly if KES' Suzuki-gun stablemates stay away from ringside.

EVIL and SANADA are two of the hottest prospects in the company, though they haven't quite clicked as a tandem yet. Smith and Archer, meanwhile, are a hard-nosed set of veteran brawlers who rarely deliver a bad bout, and usually work their tails off. NJPW booking patterns suggest their reign is coming to an end, though. No team has held the belt for 100+ days since The Briscoes in 2016, suggesting LIJ will use their World Tag League-winning momentum to spur a WK12 victory.

Winners: SANADA & EVIL
