10 Huge Signings WWE Must Make In 2022
7. PJ Black
Again, this is another wildcard option, given the way in which WWE and the then-Justin Gabriel parted ways in January 2015.
It wasn't an amicable decision, in short.
Gabriel quit the weekend of that year's Royal Rumble pay-per-view, where he was scheduled to be one of the thirty participants, with his release being formally confirmed the following day. He'd been with the company in 2008, first signing on with the developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling, prior to an impactful debut two years later in the Nexus.
A mainstay of Ring Of Honor since 2018, it's difficult to see where the now-PJ Black will fit into the wider wrestling narrative now that the Sinclair-helmed promotion is on hiatus until April. He was hardly lighting up the world in ROH, so he may not be a regular there anymore, particularly if they're no longer offering contracts. WWE may be his only hope of maintaining relevancy.
What's promising, then, is that, roughly one year ago on the SO CATCH podcast, the former WWE Tag Team Champion pondered if his WWE tenure would've turned into something more intriguing had he stuck around. He was somewhat enjoyable during stints in Lucha Underground and IMPACT Wrestling, and again in ROH, but there's a reason you entirely forgot he existed until reading this.
A WWE return is needed.
