A vicious MMA fighter with a knack for submission holds, Ron Waterman received a good deal of hype during his time in OVW.

Training alongside the likes of John Cena, Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton, Waterman's jacked heavyweight build and shooter pedigree made him a hot prospect in pro wrestling. Despite a relatively late start in the business, the big man was the talk of the town for a short stint, with many expecting WWE to strap a rocket to his back.

A series of dark matches against the likes of Jeff Hardy exposed some of his flaws between the ropes, highlighting that the shooter was way too green. Regardless, his monstrous look seemed right up Vince McMahon's alley. Considering MMA's growing cult favourite status by the early noughties, the general consensus was Waterman would be a re-do of what the promotion attempted with Ken Shamrock before his unfortunate hot sister angle.

Ultimately, Waterman's age and recklessness between the ropes was deemed too much to risk. With a younger, smoother shooter on the way in collegiate wrestling standout Brock Lesnar, WWE cut the former WEC Super Heavyweight Champion loose, snuffing out the potential superstar rumblings for good.
