4. Triple H Vs. Randy Orton

Triple H and Randy Orton have fought countless times, but their 2009 feud carried the most potential. The rivalry manifested through an ongoing storyline with the McMahons, during which Orton developed a ruthless, psychotic side to his character. He punted Vince in the head, won the Royal Rumble, then claimed that because he was suffering from intermittent explosive disorder, he was out of control, and couldn’t be held responsible for his actions.

Stephanie tried to fire him, but Orton intervened, and Shane was next on the chopping block. ‘The Viper’ went a step too far by delivering an RKO to Steph in February, however. This drew Triple H into the feud, and from there, the storyline's quality plummeted.

Randy nonsensically claimed that everything he’d done was to get back at Triple H for booting him from Evolution a couple of years prior, stating despite the numerous championships he'd won since then, Hunter had ruined his life, and he'd never recovered. Logic dictated that Orton would defeat his former mentor at WrestleMania, capping-off what had been a compelling character arc, but ‘The Game’ won. This rendered everything about Randy's character shift pointless, despite his WWE Championship victory a few weeks later.
