10 Most Iconic Images In WWE History

1. The Slam Heard 'Round The World

Hoganandre If WWE's 50+ year history of glitz and glamour, pomp and circumstance, and unparalleled showmanship can be distilled down to a single moment, then that moment is when Hulk Hogan bodyslammed Andre the Giant at WrestleMania III. When the beloved Andre turned heel on WWE Champion Hogan, tearing Hulkster's cross off and demanding a title shot, fans were devastated. With Bobby "The Brain" Heenan at his side, Andre became despised, and heading into the big bout at WWE's then-biggest event of all time, he looked unbeatable. Still, fans believed in the Hulkster, and their faith was rewarded. In front of one of the biggest wrestling crowds ever, Hogan hoisted Andre up, slammed him down, nailed him with a legdrop, and scored the pin. Not only was it the most famous match of each man's career, but an argument can be made for it being the most famous bout in wrestling history. It's not surprising that in the ensuing years, the legend has grown to exceed reality. No, there weren't 93,173 fans in the Silverdome that night. Andre the Giant didn't weight 600 pounds. It wasn't the first time he was slammed, nor was it his first loss. Still, looking at the pictures nearly thirty years later, it's almost like those lies become true. It's an iconic moment that's part of wrestling lore -- what deserves embellishment more than that?
