9. A Macho Celebration

Randyelizabeth Hulk Hogan's WWE Championship loss after a four-year-long reign was shocking, but even more unprecedented? When new champion Andre the Giant tried to sell the belt to "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase, the title was declared vacant for the first time in its 25-year history. A one-night tournament would be held at WrestleMania IV, with the winner becoming the new WWE Champion. With Hogan eliminated early in the tournament due to a double disqualification with Andre, "Macho Man" Randy Savage became the fans' choice to win. Scoring three straight victories propelled him into the finals, where he beat none other than Ted DiBiase to win his first World Title. The Hulkster came to the ring to congratulate his friend, and the beaming champ lifted his lovely wife, Miss Elizabeth, up on his shoulder. The photo of Savage and Elizabeth truly became iconic as the ultra-talented "Macho Man" achieved legendary status in wrestling. Though he never quite escaped Hogan's shadow, Savage became one of a handful of American pro wrestlers to achieve superstardom amongst wrestling fans and non-fans alike. Both Savage and Elizabeth became household names, and this is where their ascent began.
