10 Iconic Wrestling Gimmicks You Didn't Know Were STOLEN
3. Razor Ramon
Razor Ramon was a shameless, self-professed Tony Montana ripoff. The speech pattern adopted by Scott Hall was unmistakable. He saw a cool movie and decided to play the guy in it. It was as simple - but effective - as that.
Vince McMahon had never actually watched Scarface, which was just as well: knowing his bizarre predilection for incest storylines, he'd have watched the senes with Tony and Gina before introducing a sister as a character purely so that Razor could sleep with her.
In a case of art imitating life after life plagiarised art wholesale and with no compunction, Razor Ramon influenced another character: Razor Ramon Hot Guy (note: not the character's original name).
Sort of.
Portrayed by comedian Masaki Sumitani, Razor Ramon HG bore no resemblance whatsoever to Hall's character, the incredulity of which made it funny. 'HG' wore a PVC suit and, at literally every moment possible, even when being threatened, thrust his hips, so quickly that he practically vibrated. He entered the ring to Ricky Martin's 'Livin' La Vida Loca' and for a brief time in the 2000s was a well-regarded comedy wrestler for the insane HUSTLE promotion.
The joke was very much ruined when it was revealed that Sumitani was actually straight, which lent a bleak note of mockery to the bit.
