10 Impact Vs. New Japan Matches We Need To See
8. The Motor City Machine Guns Vs. Roppongi 3K
We're three for three as it pertains to the X Division vs. the junior heavyweight division, but there's a fine reason for it. Within these divisions are some of the legitimately greatest athletes wrestling has ever seen.
Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley, SHO, and YOH more than fit that billing.
If you recall, Sabin and Shelley had run-ins with No Limit, the pairing of Yujiro Takahashi and Tetsuya Naito, during Impact's initial working agreement with New Japan. To an extent, Roppongi 3K sort of give off No Limit vibes.
They've been through the Young Lions system, and are now one of the company's premier junior heavyweight tandems. As multi-time Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions, the former Sho Tanaka and Yohei Komatsu are laying down the gold standard for what it means to be a flashy, high-flying tag team in Japan; the exact same thing the Machine Guns have been doing for years in North America.
Obviously, you'd be receiving a high-quality contest between the two here, but most importantly, it would feel almost like a passing of the torch. Both Sabin and Shelley are nearing their forties and may not have too much left in the tank, whereas SHO and YOH are newly into their thirties.
Sure, it's not a huge age gap, but the point remains the same.
